Come Fly with me
From the letter:
When your brother Tommy was 10 your Da took him up in a plane, Tommy drooped a penny and spent the whole flight looking for it. When you were 4 your Da took you up in a helicopter, all you wanted was to know how it worked and to fly it. By the time you were 14 you had a jr pilots license, I have caught you cliff diving in Mexico, repelling of mountains, hang-gliding, jumping out of perfectly good airplanes and so on and so on. In all of that I have learned although most times you do things that scare a parent to death, the confidence you have is amazing. I don’t pretend to understand the daughter who will hand feed mako sharks, I do how ever admire her bravery and defend your right to do such. Parenthood will make these all seem tame and everyone is going to tell you the right way to do things. Here is my advice my darling baby girl, follow those instincts, throw away the books and take advice with a grain of salt. Dont let anyone take away your voice or shut you down, you know what’s best for your children You will know when something is not quite right. Listen to your inner voice. And when someone acts like they know all I will tell you I never stopped learning to parent. You will be fine my darling, your heart will guide you.
This is for Tommy who now loves to fly as much as I do.
