Community Cardi is my first ever crowdsourced design.

For the backstory, I designed a cozy shawl collar cardi with some handspun and a wrapped belt, but when a friend alerted me to the fact it looked very similar to another designer’s work. I immediately pulled it from the test call. Integrity is so important in our community!

I didn’t want to scrap all the math and hard work I’d done. Instead, I decided to crowdsource every single element of the rewrite. Strip it down and build it back up from the foundational numbers only- from stripes to solids, texture to stockinette, buttons to belt- and have you, my friends, vote on each aspect. The winning majority of each choice would be written into the pattern…this is truly your cardigan, and your community!

Our community is what we make it, your community cardi is what you make it!

Within this pattern there are also options for small mods, like the ability to forego the pockets, do a slimline collar instead of a shawl collar, or work cuffs standard instead of folded.

Sweater is worked flat from the top down. Sleeve sts are placed on hold while body is worked, portions of body are placed on hold to work pockets. Sleeves are worked seamlessly in the round. Pockets are stitched into place later. Front edging is picked up and knit.

This cardi is #sizeinclusive but please do check the schematic for best fit.

Reccomended to be worn with 2-4”/5-10 cm positive ease. Size B modeled on a 34”/86 cm bust with 2”/5 cm positive ease.
