Como La Flor
This summery top was inspired from the warmth that comes with summer and the traditional Mexican paper craft called Paper Picado. Although Fall will always be my favorite season, I have been indudging in the comfort of cotton tees and cooler pieces. When I was a little girl, I remember dancing in the kitchen as my grandmother cleaned listening to Spanish radio. These memories are the sweetest as it was all about the moments just between me and my grandmother. My Grandma De La Rosa was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. As a young girl, she learned early that speaking in her native language was no longer an option when she entered the public school system. She would receive spankings and punishment for it. This caused her to vow to never teach her children Spanish in fear that one day they too would suffer the scrutiny that she did from non-spanish speaking Americans. Even though I hardly understand the words, I understand the messages of the sweet songs I would listen to on those warm mornings with my grandmother. So in honor of those moments, and in honor of Spanish music, I’ve named this pattern Como La Flor inspired by the song of the same name by Selena Quintanilla.
Como La Flor is knit from the top down. You will begin with your ribbed neckband and then continue to sepeterate your stitches with stitch markers. You will then work your raglan increases according to your size until finally splitting your sleeve stitches from your body stitches. At the end of the body stitches, we will continue to the waves of the delicate lace detail. You can choose between both long and short sleeve options.
