Companion Hat
When a person is undergoing chemo, they often receive hats from friends and family. The chemo patient’s caregiver can use a little love and comfort, as well. So when a friend got cancer, I knitted him a few hats. I had small amounts of several colors of yarn left when I finished, so I made his wife a hat as well. Using all the colors I used in his chemo caps, I made a hat for her that would coordinate with whichever hat he chose to wear.
The pattern uses an open, lacy mesh stitch to maximize the use of scrap yarn. You will need approximately 44 yards of the main color, and 22 yards of each of 2 contrast colors.
The gauge isn’t really critical. The ribbed band makes the hat wearable by a range of head sizes.
The pattern is 2 pages, with one color photo on the first page.
