Brown and blue are opposites on the color wheel - complementary colors. I’m blue, the hat is brown. :-) You’ll get compliments when you wear it no matter what color you choose.

Braided cables and bulky yarn make for a fast project that will impress all your friends who don’t knit. I designed and knit the the first one while watching the Oscars.

You may wish to go down a needle size for the ribbed section.

Edit 3/8/10: Added second brim option to flow into the cables and corrected some awkward wording that had you connecting to join in the round only after the brim was done. Der.

Edit 3/11/10: Correction made to Round 3 of decrease rounds. It should say, “slip 2 stitches to cable needle and hold to front, K2, K2 from cable needle, K2.” In the original version, I’d accidentally left off the instruction to knit those last two stitches in the cable section. Sorry about that!
