Yarn: Fingering weight single-ply, 785 total yards; see color notes below
Needles: US 5 circular; 32” or longer recommended
Notions: Tapestry needle, markers if they help you remember front/back or where to increase/decrease
Gauge: This design does not require an exact gauge. Choose needles that achieve the drape you prefer with the yarn you’re using. BUT… I-cord edging is always firmer than garter fabric, so a too-tight gauge may not allow your edge to stretch and block out enough. Also note that sample shawl used all but .5 g of a full skein of color A, and varying gauge will affect yardage.
Finished size: 66 inches long when laid out flat, 25 inches at widest part of shawl body

Color
Shawl pictured uses four colors as follows:
Color A: pale/warm – all of the 435 yd skein, about 114.5g
Color B: saturated/warm – 220yd, 58g
Color C: mid/cool – 330yd, 87g
Color D: dark/cool – 20yd, 31g

Notes
Follow this color scheme, or pick your own! The pattern is based on an auger shell, which is long and pointed with segments that increase in size and darkness toward the open end.
Color changes happen at the beginning of a ws row, for a blended effect on the right side.
The two lace patterns are true lace, but only two and four lines long, so they’re easy to remember.
