Conebushes
The inspiration for this hat was drawn from the floral designs that were prominent on vintage filet crochet nightgown yokes, along with the gorgeous conebush, or leucadendron, flowers. These shrubs are a unique dioecious member of the fynbos species and are a vital part of the fynbos ecosystem of South Africa. This particular image was drawn from a subspecies, entitled cream delight, which has cream flowers with pink/red edges. This design, for me, is reminiscent of both history and heritage and a way of bringing these to life within my work.
