Coney Hat
The Coney Hat is a cone-shaped striped hat. It is an example of how to use the mathematics of surfaces of revolution to create knitting patterns for those surfaces.
If the Coney Hat is knitted in the exact colors suggested, then an optical illusion results: the teal looks greenish when near the orange, but looks bright blue when near the dark blue. (Suggested colors: in Cascade Pastaza, delft (starry night, midnight) 6002, teal 013, russet 010; in Valley Yarns Northampton, midnight heather 29, jade 34, sunset 16)
Stitches and techniques used in this pattern: casting on, knitting, purling, decreasing
