“Kokuhaku” (告白) translates from Japanese as making a confession or revealing something, but it most commonly refers to a first declaration of romantic interest. When such a confession is made and accepted, it marks the transition from casually dating to something more serious; it is an acknowledgement that both people see a real future for the relationship.

Our Confession is a dramatic cowl worked back and forth and grafted. Confession is a sister knit to the Kokuhaku and Revelation designs, and, like its sisters, Confession shows the possibilities and hope inherent in recognizing and revealing one’s heart, and the beautiful metamorphosis that happens when a kernel of feeling is reciprocated and grows to twine two hearts and lives together. Its foundation is a simple 16-row repeat that results in a softly geometric pattern of diamonds. The center panel features smaller diamonds that grow into larger ones, which are echoed at the outer edges. The largest diamonds are intertwined to form two mirrored bands of continuous scrolls.

Worked in two strands of Why Knot Fibers’ yarns--one strand of Savor, a bouncy Merino, and one of Swoon, a cashmere blend--Confession is plush beyond words. At almost 90” around, it has infinite styling possibilities. It can be worn wrapped once, twice, or even three times around the neck, as a hood, a veil, a bandolier, or even down the back in a single, dramatic loop. No matter how you wear it, Confession is a truly decadent piece.

Yarn and Yardage. Confession is designed for light fingering weight yarn, accomplished by holding two strands of lace together, although it could be worked beautifully in other weights of yarn. 850 yards each of Why Knot Fibers’ Savor (a beautiful Merino lace) and Swoon (a cashmere blend lace), or approximately 1700 total yards of lace-weight yarn.

Modifications. At its foundation, Confession is based on a 16-row and 10-stitch repeat, which makes it supremely easy to adjust both width- and length-wise to accommodate your yardage. The pattern also could be lovely worked in weights of yarn other than fingering.
