This pattern uses the interlocking filet crochet technique

CONFETTI SHAWL is a great design for a multi color yarn or a perfect stash buster. Choose a generic Col B and keep switching out Col A.

The shawl is also reversible as the patterning on the back creates a different yet beautiful array of colors.

It is worked from the top (neckline) down. In otherwords, from the widest edge towards the point, decreasing on either side of every row as you go.

The way that the decreasing is done creates an automatic scallop-like edge on either side. Once the shawl is worked a border is only crocheted along the neckline.

It is best to use a Fingering / Sport weight or Light DK weight yarn as the double layer created by the interlocking technique lends itself to a slightly thicker than normal crochet fabric.

It is also best to use a larger than normal hook for these thinner yarns as it helps to create a soft flowy crochet fabric with a lovely drape.

I used a merino/nylon sport weight yarn.
My ColA was a variegated color and ColB was as solid color.
You could use 2 solid or semi solid colors instead.
The variegation is what creates the multi color effect in my shawl.

Yarn: Big Fox Yarns (100g / 366m)
Colors:
ColA: - Cabana Sunrise - 4 skeins
ColB: - Silver Linings - 3 skeins
Hook Size: 5mm

It is advisable to block your shawl once completed.

The technique is symmetrical, so hand dominance is not a factor.

The download includes:

  • The pattern file
  • A FULL PDF Tutorial with loads of detailed pics and an extra practice pattern for you to try first before venturing on to the actual shawl.

Note: This pattern does not teach you how to do interlocking filet crochet. If you haven’t tried the technique before I suggest you try one of my potholder, coaster or mug rug patterns. They all come with a detailed tutorial on the technique.
