Contexta
Contexta Afghan is constructed with octagon and mitered square motifs that play with textured stitches. I originally designed Contexta for my Craftsy Class: Knitting Texture: One Motif at a Time. The pattern is available individually here (and includes an extra SUPER EASY Octagon for beginners) or as part of my Craftsy class.
You get to play with which octagon motifs you want in your project. This part is SO much fun! You can also lay out your motifs in different configurations to make your projects larger (or smaller).
The octagons use about 110 yards (approx 30 yards for the border and 80 for the interior), and the mitered square about 35 yards.
You can do the math based on how many octagons and squares you are going to make to determine the yarn you’ll need. Make sure to order at least 1 skein extra for joining your motifs and working the border. The pattern explains this in depth.
Use this link to purchase the yarn I used in Contexta.
Also, a group of knitters designed an expansion pack with 7 MORE Octagons for Contexta… those are available here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/contexta-expansio...
