Contrariwise has a coordinating double loop cowl, Circular Reasoning. You can buy the set of both patterns for $9; discount applied automatically at check-out.

Contrariwise is worked in the round from brim to crown, using heavy fingering/light sport weight yarn. The pattern includes two sizes, and offers instructions for a brim with or without a contrasting hem, a slouchy or beanie style hat, and tips on further adjusting the hat depth, including an alternate chart for crown shaping. The colourwork section and crown decreases are charted only.

The size and gauge are measured in the colourwork section, as it tends to be less stretchy. The k3, p3 ribbing on the brim is quite stretchy and slightly smaller to ensure a good fit.

Yarn requirements: Heavy fingering/light sport weight yarn, MC: 145 yds/133m; CC1, 115 yds/105m; CC2 (if you’re doing the contrasting hem): 40 yds/37m.

Notions: 1 stitch marker; yarn needle

If making the hat with a hem, you will also need a US2/2.75mm 16”/40cm circular needle and scrap yarn for a provisional cast on.
