Convalescence Shawl
This pattern is based on the knitted Sick Day Shawl by Kate Atherley, and is published with kind permission from the designer.
I designed this shawl as part of a challenge to create a crocheted version of one of Kate’s patterns. Like the original, this easily memorized pattern is a good one to work on while you are snuggled in bed recovering from whatever ails you. A simple combination of half double crochet and chain stitches results in a beautifully textured shawl that works up quickly and requires minimal counting. It would also make a lovely prayer shawl.
My version of this shawl used approximately 875 yards of DK weight yarn, but the size of the shawl is easily adjusted by adding or subtracting rows. You could even use a lighter or heavier weight of yarn, adjusting the yardage and hook size as necessary. The possibilities are endless!
NOTE: Due to the nature of the increases in the pattern, some rippling and ruffling will occur as you work, especially along the top and bottom edges. Blocking will alleviate most of this issue, so it is highly recommended to use yarn with blockable fiber content.
A special thank you to my pattern testers: cindi120, ppremdas, Zabe61, RabidMammal
