This is the listing for the Cool Down Vest PDF crochet pattern! When purchasing this pattern you will get access to a PDF with written instructions on how to make this vest yourself!

It is an intermediate-friendly pattern that is super fun to work up! It’s a comfortable, airy vest that works great as is but can also be layered for colder weather! The stitch combination used with the thin cotton yarn makes the vest look really intricate and detailed. This is quite an oversized and long vest, but feel free to choose a different size than the one recommended or make more/less starting chains to alter the size of the vest.

Below you’ll find some technical information about this pattern:

SIZING
- This is a graded pattern with 9 sizes based on measurements from the Women Size Chart by the Craft Yarn Council. The sizes represent your chest circumference measurement.

  • The chest circumference of the shirt for sizes (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9): (99,107,119,130,139,150,161,170,181) cm or (38.8,42.4,46.7,51.2,54.6,59.1,63.6,67.0,71.5) inches.

  • The shirt is meant to have 21-29 cm (8.6-11.4 inches) of positive ease, meaning that it should be bigger than your body and fit quite loosely around the chest.

MATERIALS USED

  • Crochet hook 3.5 mm (or hook needed to obtain gauge)
  • Crochet hook 3.0 mm (or 0.5 mm smaller than your main hook)
  • Fingering weight (weight 1) cotton or cotton blend yarn
    • I used Mandarin Petit by Sandnes Garn (180 m/50 g)
    • For sizes (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) you’ll need approximately (955,1080,1190,1305,1450,1560,1680,1815,1930) m of yarn.
  • Blocking mat/towel + pins
  • Yarn needle/Darning needle
  • Measuring tape
  • Stitch markers
  • Scissors

TECHNIQUES USED (US TERMS)

  • Chain(s) – ch(s)
  • Slip stitch(es) – slst(s)
  • Yarn over slip stitch(es) – yoslst(s)
  • Half double crochet(s) – hdc(s)
  • Single crochet(s) – sc(s)
  • End of row – eor
  • Back loop only – blo
  • Front loop only – flo

GAUGE

  • 10x10 cm (4x4 inches) = 20 stitches x 14 rows
  • The gauge swatch is made using alternating rows of hdc+sc in blo and yoslsts in flo.

DIFFICULTY

  • 3/5
  • The vest is made in two panels that are then attached and the ribbing is crocheted directly onto it.
  • The main stitch combo is repeated throughout the pattern and although is can be a little tricky if you’re not used to it, you’ll soon get the hang of it and hopefully find it really fun to work up!

COOL DOWN COLLECTION
This pattern is part of the “Cool Down Collection”. The two other pieces included are the Cool Down Pants and the Cool Down Shirt, both of which you can find the patterns for on my etsy. The Jebel Button Up is an unofficial member of this collection as it uses the same stitches but was created and released as its own separate piece, and is also available on my etsy.
