Copley Square Cowl
Copley Square, Boston is one of my favorite places on earth. To me it is the heart of Boston. And one of the windiest places I’ve ever walked through in winter. This is my favorite cowl ever, a cowl that is pretty and lacy, but warm too. About one third of the cowl is my favorite lace, Snowdrop, the rest of the cowl is Moss Stitch. Both are lovely but simple stitches. A cowl that is all lace won’t keep my neck warm. A cowl that is just solid isn’t quite pretty enough. The lace shows in the front of the cowl giving an elegant facade, while the moss stitch gives warmth and looks nice from both sides. This cowl is the best of both worlds, pretty and practical and easy to knit.
MadelineTosh Vintage is used in the photos, but any worsted weight wool, or DK weight cotton for spring, will work nicely.
Three sizes: Short, Medium (pictured) and XL. The Medium wraps twice around the neck with extra length for a nice drape.
Gauge: 16 sts = 4 ins in blocked Moss Stitch on larger needles.
Finished Circumference: approximately 34 (44, 54 ) ins after blocking, 7 ins wide
Materials: 200, (270, 330) yds MadelineTosh Vintage (Bloomsbury shown)
or any soft worsted weight wool or DK Cotton.
