Cora Sweater
About Cora Sweater
Sweater features an oversize fit and raglan design. It is knitted top down with German short rows that raise the neck and shoulders for a perfect fit. The half fisherman’s rib design is super stretchy and creates a thicker fabric perfect for cold winter days.
Sizes
XS (S, M, L) XL (2XL, 3XL, 4XL) 5XL
Finished Measurements
• Bust: 35 (38, 42, 46) 50 (54, 58, 62) 66 inches
• Upper Arm: 14.25 (15, 15.5, 16.5) 18 (20, 21, 22.5) 22.5 inches
o To choose your size, measure your bust and add 5-6 inches. Then choose the closest finished bust circumference.
Knitting Needles
• US 4/3.5mm circular needles 16” and DPN’s
o These will be used to knit the neckband and cuffs.
• US6/4mm circular 16”, 30” and DPN’s
o The body of sweater, sleeves, and ribbing for hem will be knit in this size. For body, you’ll start with 16” circular needles and then move on to longer ones as sts increase. For the sleeves, you’ll knit in the round using DPN’s.
You can use magic loop or shorties instead of DPN’s.
Yarn
Worsted (4)
Preferred yarn: Malabrigo Rios 210yd/100g
For sizes XS (S, M, L) XL (2XL, 3XL, 4XL) 5XL you’ll need:
Main Color: 3 (3, 3, 3) 4 (4, 4, 5) 5 skeins (shown here in Natural)
Contrast Color: 2 (2, 3) 3 (3, 3, 4, 4) 4 skeins (shown here in Niebla)
If you plan on substituting a different yarn, you’ll need approximately the following yardage:
Main color: 495 (535, 560, 615) 695 (750, 805, 875) 920 yards
Contrast Color: 385 (420, 435, 485) 560 (605, 650, 715) 750 yards
For this pattern the main color is the one you’ll use for the neckband, cuffs, and hem ribbing as well as the body. The contrast color will be the one used on the body and sleeves only.
This pattern can be a great stash buster. Use one main color and use whatever you have on hand for the contrast color(s). It’s also great for softening the look of heavily variegated yarns as shown in the picture.
Gauge
18 sts x 40 rows in half fisherman’s rib on US 6/4mm = 4 x 4 inches when knit in the round, washed, and blocked. Remember that every knit “V” stitch is 2 rows when counting.
Our gauge swatch measured 21sts x 46 rows before blocking and 18 sts x 40 rows after blocking.
Gauge Pattern
Suggestion: cast on 40 sts and use DPN’s or magic loop to knit gauge swatch.
Set up round: k1, p1, repeat * - * entire round.
Round 1: Purl all sts.
Round 2: k1b, p1, repeat * - * entire round.
Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until knitting measures about 4-5 inches. Wash and block.
