The Coral Reefs shawl is knitted in an asymmetrical triangular shape using yarn in two contrasting colors. Knitting begins at the wide side of the shawl and finishes with a few stitches at the opposite end. The shaping is done with decreases on one edge and increases on the other edge at different rates to reduce the number of stitches as you progress. A slightly curved shape results naturally from the different tension between the edge stitches and the body stitches of the shawl.
In this shawl both colors are used in the selvedge stitches at the beginning of each right side row to create a uniform, neat looking top edge and to avoid cutting unused yarn when changing colors in each section. The garter stitch sections alternate with the contrasting eyelet row sections for added visual interest and to keep knitting fun. Of course, this shawl can easily be converted to a single color project if a knitter prefers.
The pattern includes written and charted instructions.
