This started as a challenge to use the same fingering yarn to develop different looking hats. I played with one, two and four strands of the Estelle Permin yarn and came up with four hat patterns that hopefully will suit everyone’s taste for something simple or complicated.

The Corkscrew Slouch or Beret is knitted with one strand of fingering yarn held together with a mohair silk strand.

The Permin yarn is very soft and if you add the mohair silk, you get a warm and luxurious hat. Very elegant. If you prefer a Beret, just block the hat over a large dinner plate. It is lovely adorned with a pompom.

The pattern is a 10 stitch-repeat and each row is easy to memorize There is a two-stitch twist cable that can easily be knit without a cable needle - there are many videos available on the net on this subject.
