News (May 2016): This pattern is not representative of my current design work and pattern writing style. I have lost the pattern file, so I can’t send it to anybody anymore, and I have given away the original item. I have no plans to update this, sorry! Golden corn fields in the summer breeze… lush flowers and fruit in the afternoon sun…

Varied eyelet patterns and textures create the playful and sophisticated look of this summer top, while the actual construction is quite simple and requires very little finishing: the item is knit bottom up in the round, split for front and back, and seamed at the shoulders.

Cornfield is a versatile garment that can be worn over a shirt, camisole or dress, or with just a bra underneath (or, if you feel daring, nothing at all ;)). It lends itself equally well to a casual look with linen pants or jeans, and a more dressy outfit with a skirt. And when summer ends, layer it over a blouse or longsleeve on one of those golden October days…

The crisp cotton/silk yarn gives great stitch definition and a subtle sheen that makes the colour radiate in the sunlight, while the ribbon structure ensures that the open fabric keeps its shape well.
A linen or hemp blend would also work well and make for a more rustic look. Too soft, fuzzy and slick materials and variegated yarns should be avoided.

Please note that a dk to light worsted weight yarn should be used. The original yarn (which I was told is discontinued) is listed as a worsted weight with a rather loose gauge here in Ravelry. For this design, I knitted it with thinner needles and at a tighter gauge, so please take this into account when looking for a substitute. Aran weight yarns and heavier worsted weight yarns are not suitable for this project!

Required skills:
Knitting flat and in the round, reading charts and working basic lace/eyelet patterns, seaming/grafting shoulder seams.

Sizing information:
Due to the casual fit and the stretchy nature of the fabric, this top will easily fit a range of bust sizes. Unfortunately, overall bigger sizes are not available at the moment, but may be added later.
