This pattern is knit holding three strands of cotton (different colors) together at the same time; thus, the larger gauge. It knits up very fast and very easy and is a top down construction. I used 22 different colors of the Cotton Twist and made two sweaters because of the huge amount of yarn I had to begin with. But this could easily be made using just a few colors.
