I love the look of cables but I have always struggled with achieving them without having big gaps and/or messy looking cables. I wanted to come up with something similar to cables, but with a more subtle braid-like texture while also eliminating the gaps. So I set out on my mission and this is what I came up with.

I had recently learned the Larksfoot Trail Stitch and loved the texture, so this became the inspiration for my “counterfeit cables”. I played around with the stitch a bit and made some tweaks, and finally achieved the look I was going for. Mission accomplished!

This pattern works up fairly quickly and has a great texture. You can make it in any color combinations you want, and you can add a pom pom or other fun embellishments.

This pattern is not a tutorial - you will need to know basic stitches and techniques. That being said, with the written instructions, picture guide and measurements chart it will be easy to accomplish for an advanced beginner.
