Yarn: DK (#3) weight, three colors - 1000-1100 yds

I don’t often get to fly, but when I do, one of my favorite parts is looking at the landscape below from such a high perspective. Particularly when you’re flying over the Midwest, the land looks like perfect patchwork squares because country roads are primarily constructed at right angles to each other in one-mile increments. The look of my beloved Midwest countryside from the air inspired this design.

The Country Patches baby blanket is worked in simple squares first. Because there’s only a 2-row repeat, the center of the squares work up very quickly, and it only takes a few more minutes to add a Color A border to each square to unify the look of the blanket. Front and back post stitches not only give the squares a textured appeal, but they also adorn the border as well, tying the whole look together. While this pattern is not difficult to follow or create by any means, you’ll need to take care to match up the corners of your squares when you’re stitching them together so your blanket doesn’t come out askew!
