The Five Tenets Collection of shawls is inspired by the five tenets of taekwondo. The five tenets are recited by the class, unifying them as students, but also as humans. Even though these tenets are rooted in martial arts, they are principles we all should live by: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit.
Courtesy, the first tenet of taekwondo, means that we should be kind and respectful to one another. Courtesy comes naturally to most knitters. We love to knit items for charity and gifts for family and friends. The rosebuds along one edge are like a bouquet of flowers you’d give to a friend. The shawlette begins at one end with a cast-on of just a few stitches. The asymmetrical construction allows you to work until you’re nearly out of yarn, making this an ideal one-skein project—a quick and affordable gift.
