This is a fundraising pattern for my late brother, Mino (1971-2004)

I have knitted so many cowls and have come to the conclusion that I like a single-round rib cowl best. I wear a cowl inside and outside the house. A single cowl is small enough to grab and go, take it off and put in a purse. It gives me enough warmth without wearing a sweater or a heavy jacket.

This is a simple rib cowl with a twist. Ktbl lines go up next to the rib lines, adding an accent. It crawls up your neck and makes you look sharp, like an assassin. Don’t you think so?

Sample
Finished size 8” high x 12” circumference (20cm x 30.5cm) when not stretched. It stretches to 22”/56cm
Yarn: Madelinetosh, Tosh DK (100% Merino, 225 yards, Nutmeg) 56g/126 yards used
Needles: Size US 7 (4.5 mm) circular or DPN
Gauge (knitted in round): 5 stitches and 8 rounds = 1”/2.5cm in Stockinette stitch.

All the proceeds of this pattern will be donated to the Minoru Hokari Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Australian National University. My late brother, Minoru Hokari (“Mino” 1971-2004) died of cancer at the age of 32. The scholarship fund supports young scholars who study Indigenous Australians through fieldwork.
