I designed these for some friends who were expecting. I had never made booties before, so I was unsure how to go about it. After doing some research and knitting a few test pieces… voila!

Having had two babies of my own, I knew that they like to rub their feet together and often kick their socks off. This always frustrated me! I solved that problem with these by tweaking the cuff ribbing in a couple of places to keep them snug but comfortably stretchy. My friends have told me these booties really DO stay put!

These booties have been designed to fit three sizes:

Preemie (less than 6 lbs) (3kg)
Newborn (6-10 lbs) (3-5kg)
3-6 months (up to 18 lbs) (8kg)

I used Bernat Softee Baby yarn for this project, but you could substitute just about any sport-weight yarn. (Although, if you substitute another yarn, I recommend you experiment with washing and drying a swatch to check for changes in gauge. Cottons especially tend to loosen in width and shrink in length.)

Techniques used in this project are:

--basic increases and decreases
--short row shaping
--twisted stitches
--basic hand sewing

They’re actually quite easy, but I would have to qualify this as an intermediate level project just because of the number of techniques used.
