The concise version of the pattern has the extra pictures, and notes, removed and is only 2 pages long.

This rustic, chunky, half vest, half cowl, is a crochet version of the eye catching vest worn by Katniss, in Catching Fire.

It is very fast to make (maybe 3 hours, if you are on a roll); and with only two pieces to crochet together the construction is straightforward.

The result is fun to wear, and would make a great gift for any hunger games fan (yourself included).

The techniques used are: basic crochet sts, working in the back loop, basic shaping, and simple short rows.

All in all it is an easy pattern, perfect for the advanced beginner, looking to move on from rectangles and tubes, and try the next step. Or, for an intermediate, or advanced, crocheter looking for a unique “instant gratification” kind of project.

The pattern uses 318 yards of super bulky yarn (pictured is, Lion brand wool-ease Thick & Quick Tweed, in Grey Marble). But, you can also substitute 2 strands of bulky, or 3 strands of worsted, held together.

The pattern has a mod, for if you want to make the “triangle bit” in a knitted Herringbone stitch, which is fiddly to work, but more reminiscent of the original.
Please note that this is only a mod and that the entire piece can be made without ever touching a knitting needle.

Thank you everyone, for your patience, as I got everything worked out.

And a big thank you to all my testers, who helped me make this pattern better than I could imagine.
