What a year?!?! And the cooler weather is just around the corner. As a world community, we are going to have to do all we can to ensure that our neighbors, friends, colleagues, and family are secure and safe in their food, warmth, and shelter. To this end, I am providing a series of free patterns under the heading: Knitting for Charity, hoping to encourage my fellow knitters to make a few cozy, warm objects to share locally with those in need. We may not have resources to aid with food or shelter, but many of us have yarn, needles, and the skills to create. For those of us who can, let’s do make winter items to share.

This is a basic Cozy, Warm Knit Hat that will fit most people, from child to adult (~18” to 24” head circumference). It is super stretchy, and I encourage you to use a soft and easy-to-care-for fiber, such as super wash merino or acrylic yarns. I have used the uber soft and cozy Caron Simply Soft that I bought for a whopping $1 at my local reuse craft store, Scrap Bmore. Caron Simply Soft may be found at Joann’s, Michael’s, Walmart, Amazon, etc. for around $4 - $5 per skein new. Many LYS’ also carry donation yarns specifically for knitting up charitable items such as this Cozy, Warm Knit Hat. Call yours to inquire!

This hat will match perfectly with my Simply, Elegant Ribbed Scarf, which is available for free in my Ravelry store. Hat and scarf make an ideal combo for giving!

And, of course, this pattern is available to you for free for knitting yourself and your loved ones Cozy, Warm Knit Hats, because you too deserve all the warmth and love of hand-knitted objects.
