KNITTING RECIPES FROM THE CORNISH COAST
CRAB POT SHAWL
The remote Isles of Scilly lie beyond Cornwall’s most south westerly tip and are only visible from the mainland on a clear day.
These islands are host to a mixture of semi-tropical plants and white sandy beaches set within translucent waters. Yet, these isles show the scars of storms past, their coastlines littered with shipwrecks. But the hardy fisher folk from these isles are still reliant on the sea for their livelihood.
Wandering along paths to the island’s harbour, you will encounter their crab pots weathered by the Cornish sea. Our Crab Pot Shawl pattern depicts the twisted fabric of these pots and the broken diamonds are inspired by their woven pattern. The Crab Pot shawl pays homage to patterns seen in the traditional Cornish Gansey knitwear worn by seafarers from the Scilly’s.
