Crann Tara Shawl
“Crann Tara”
The Crann Tara or Firey Cross was a cross made from a Yew or Hazel tree that was lit under Scottish Tradition as a means of communication and warning between the people of a clan to gather together. It was a construction that was viewed with awe and its lighting and calling was always taken seriously, bringing the men of the clan together to fight for the cause of its lighting.
I have taken the sight of a burning symbol against the black background, added the cables, slipped and textured stitches and created this shawl.
As with many of my designs this is inspired by Scottish history and fiction.
I hope you enjoy the making of the shawl and hold my concept for its design in mind as you work the rows.
