This Crazy Quilt Scarf can be adapted to any colorway, and creates a swirl of colors that will frame your face. It is a great stash-buster project. I used all those bits and bobs of my favorite yarns, that just weren’t enough for a bigger project, but were crying out to be used in something beautiful.

It is knit on the diagonal, with an i-cord edging, and the pattern is written in such a way that you could easily adapt it to any slip-stitch pattern, or vary the width and the colors/contrast of the patches for an endless variety of scarves. . I’ve knit the pattern in different weights, from sport/dk all the way up to bulky. With the finer weight yarns, the speckles almost seem to shimmer, while the heavier weights have a chunky pleasing texture. You can see photos of the different prototypes I’ve knit while developing this pattern,

I invented a seamless i-cord cast-on just for this scarf, so you don’t have to come back and graft together the i-cord once you’ve finished your scarf. Instead you will have a smooth, continuous i-cord that frames the bottom edge of your scarf. The cast-on is simple and elegant, and I’ve included a supplemental file that has photos and step-by-step instructions. You will have to graft the final 6 stitches of the i-cord binding in order to finish the scarf. Still can’t figure out how to get around that one.
