Creation of Adam Illusion
or buy at Payhip or LoveCrafts.
This illusion knit is inspired by Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam fresco on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
The pattern includes instructions for a shawl and a wall-hanging. When you look at them from directly in front you only see narrow stripes. The image appears when you look from the side.
The shawl measures approximately 160 cm by 80 cm using DK yarn and 3.5 mm needles. At approximately 5 stitches to the inch the shawl requires about 520 metres (570 yards) in each of two contrasting colours.
The rectangular wall hanging or stole, measures approximately 142 cm by 56 cm using DK yarn and 3 mm needles and uses around 600 metres (660 yards) in each of two contrasting colours.
Both pieces will require extra yarn for a border - approximately 150 metres (165 yards) for the shawl and 300 metres (330 yards) for the wall hanging or stole.
Using a different yarn for either piece would change the overall size.
The pattern includes several different versions of the charts including some for users of mobile devices.
One of the photos shows the hanging when it was on display, above a fireplace, at Haworth Art Gallery, Accrington (UK)
