Due to the influence of the Mississippi river, New Orleans is also known as the Crescent City. Home to jazz, the blues, and mosquitoes, the New Orleans area is steeped in history. This pattern pays homage to a great city.

This is a crescent shaped shawlette with a garter stitch border that is knit from center back to the bottom edge. Yarn overs at each end are used to form the crescent shape. Increases are worked on both right and wrong sides. The shawlette is customizable in size.

The pattern is knit with two strands of yarn (one smooth, one fuzzy) held together. It uses 440 yards of each yarn type. The shawlette is currently available for purchase from Knit Picks as either a kit or a downloadable pattern.

When working the pattern, you will need to repeat the boxed stitch pattern in chart B: 3 times the first time you work it, 6 times the second, 9 times the third, and 12 times the forth, 15 times the fifth, and 18 times the sixth. The boxed repeat will be worked 10 times in chart C and 14 times in chart D.

Errata: Row 15 Chart D is missing a k2tog- After the pattern repeat, the stitches should read: k2tog, yo, k1, k2tog, yo, k1, k2tog, yo, k2, yo, ssk, k2tog, yo, k1, k2tog, yo, k1, k2tog, yo, k2, yo, ssk, k1, yo, k1, yo, k3.
