This particular design arose from my imagination of what interwoven ribbons would look like in knitting- the fancy kind of fabric ribbon that expensive wrapping paper shops sell. I played with the idea of Christmas style colors – with the burgundy, gold, and forest green as the background color- then thought of black velvet ribbon with black as the main color – but finally settled on the dark brown since it goes more with my sister’s favorite colors. The cowl ultimately will go to her.
Entrelac knitting made the most sense since it naturally creates the woven effect and thus this pattern was born. It’s a good pattern to try knitting backwards since you only have to do so over 9 stitch repeats and also a good way to try entrelac fair isle since the color repeats are fairly simple. Enjoy!

Also, I included some links to good, free instructional videos from YouTube if you’d like to review the techniques.
