Claude Monet, the artist, was the founder of French Impressionist painting. He used the effect of changing light and color as it would be seen at various times of the day. The human figures and objects took a back seat to his portrayal of color and light.

The amazing hand-painted and speckled sock and fingering weight yarns that are available now remind me of a Monet painting. The “Croché a Monet” scarf is perfect for these artistically hand-painted skeins of yarn.

The scarf is crocheted from the bottom up, and when you wear the scarf you have no upside down stitches, as you have when a scarf is crocheted from the top down.

The stitch pattern is easy, and after you crochet the set up and the first five rows, it’s an easy-to-memorize two-row repeat.

Then, you can pick one of the two finishing options, a crocheted edging or tassels. Either way you will love this scarf. So, pick out your favorite hand-painted yarn and crochet your own masterpiece!

I used the Blue Moon Fiber Arts Colossal Sock yarn in the colorway “Birthday Sprinkles”. At 150 grams and 600 yards it was just enough to make a scarf.
