This is a pattern that shows you everything you need to do to add a crochet edging to any unfinished item.

The photos show the finished blanket then the basic steps . . but, trust me, the tutorial has a LOT MORE PHOTOS for your viewing pleasure.

I have shown it on a Receiving Blanket. But, it would work on any flannel or cotten hat, bib, towel, washcloth, dress, burp towel, swim wear, sleepwear, lingerie, etc, etc, etc.

One of my FAVORITE Bridal SHower gifts was adding a crochet edging to a very simple cotton nighty … then bought another nighty, cut it to form a receiving blanket and added the same edging to make the bride a baby blanket when she had her first daughter.

Personally, I prefer the Size 5 thread and Steel Crochet Hook. They fit my style of crochet.

I do not like edgings done in yarn heavier than a sock yarn, but, you can do them with heavier yarns . . just use a compatable hook and a larger eyed needle for your anchoring row.

This is a VERY thorough pattern … ie, picture heavy. But, I would rather have too many pictures than leave you in the cold when it comes to understanding how to do this. It has taken me quite a number of years to get this down to a “crochet science” and now that I feel I have it under control. I want to share it with all of you crocheters who like to give handmade items that didn’t start out that way.
