This is a pattern for a crocheted XMP burster (inspired by the game Ingress). It stands about 5 inches tall and is 8 inches across at its widest point.

It is worked in several pieces which are then assembled in two stages. While only basic stitches are required (single crochet, increase, decrease, half-double crochet), it is somewhat involved and requires sewing pieces together. Surface crochet is also used.

Four colors of yarn are used; scraps are sufficient for three of them (the purple, lavender, and grey), more black is used, but still much less than an entire skein. Use whatever worsted weight yarn you like or have on hand.
