Crochet Intarsia (Graphghan) Tutorial
This does not include the pattern for the cat afghan. It is available from Mary Maxim. This is the link for the Cat Silhouette Afghan.
This tutorial has been updated for clarity and for how to reduce feathering when shifting by one stitch to create a diagonal line between color areas!!
The response to the Cat Afghan both on Ravelry and on Facebook was overwhelming, but many crocheters had given up on the technique because of frustration with trying to get a neat outcome. I am hoping this step-by-step tutorial will be helpful since I am addressing most color-changing situations.
This way of doing it involves no carrying of yarn. I have not solved the problem of many ends to weave, but the final outcome is much nicer than trying to reduce ends by carrying yarns.
The tag “charts” and “written pattern” refers to the tutorial steps--they are charted and written.
New points to be added to future updates:
a. I never crochet over cut ends to secure--most of the time they work loose.
b. It’s OK to carry yarns over short distances by crocheting over them, but only if the strand is the same color as the row below or the row above--if the color contrasts with both rows, it will show.
I just noticed that when the document is opened the word “knitting” appears in the title. I will remove this and update the PDF asap.
