Crochet rib seam
This tutorial gives the instructions for making an incredibly elastic crochet ribbing. A video embedded on the tutorial page shows you just how stretchy it is, and how well it bounces back.
That is followed by the main focus of this offering, a step-by-step photo-tutorial on how to seam the ribbing “invisibly” so that you can make a tube from the fabric that looks the same on the inside as the outside.
The technique works regardless of the gauge and you will adjust the size of your hook to match your yarn and the size of your ribbing tube to suit your purpose. Yardage will depend on the thickness of your yarn and how wide and long you make your ribbing.
This has many uses. The tube on its own will make a wrister, but it can also be used for crocheted socks, the tops on knitted socks, the cuffs on sleeves (crochet and knitted) and, as I’ve done in one of my other patterns, the bottom for other items that need some stretch, like my Puffy Rib Cosy.
