This project started as an exercise to make up 4 x 4 inch blocks of a variety of different stitch patterns in crochet, but it evolved into a teaching project for beginning crochet students. The bag is made up of 20 blocks in seven different patterns – single, half double, and double crochet, seed stitch and rib stitch, and two post stitches, basket weave, and cables. I made three squares (one of each color in each pattern) except for the single crochet which forms the bottom of the bag. The bag features long shoulder straps and is lined it with cotton fabric. Inside the bag are two pockets to hold small items like keys, a cell phone or stitch markers. It would make a good project bag to hold your next knitting or crochet project, but with a shorter handle, it would also work well as a reusable grocer/market bag. You can even roll it up and stash it in your backpack or suitcase in case you need another bag to carry all the treasure you find in your travels.
Skill Level:
For beginners with knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques. You will learn ribbing, seed stitch and post stitches. Beginner sewing skills if bag is to be lined.
Finished Dimensions:
9 inches wide by 14 inches tall without shoulder strap. Shoulder strap drop is 15 inches.
