Crocheted Captivator
No gauge given. Garment is essentially a triangular shawl which is draped over the head and slightly gathered 5” down from point to form a ‘cap’ which sits on top of the head, while the rest falls about the neck and shoulders. The cap area and all edges are covered with crochet flowers sewn on - centre of flowers is formed of a French Knot in lighter-weight cotton.
The pattern specifies a “crochet hook size 1”: note that this does not appear to correspond to a modern B/1 hook.
Quantities suggested: knitting cotton in 100-yard skeins, 3 skeins in base colour plus 2 skeins of white for flowers. No.600 Knitting & Crochet Cotton is described as ideal in size “for making sweaters, hats, afghans, rugs etc.”, therefore presumably relatively thick.
Date circa 1940s.
