This tree design was inspired by the book “The Little Crooked Christmas Tree”, by Michael Cutting and Ron Broda. You can find the book online, but I believe it has to be second hand. There is an image of the book at the beginning of the pattern for your reference.

My mother would read it to me as a child, and I stumbled across it again this holiday season (2023). I read it to my children and found myself crying as I read the final pages. I never realized how sad and lonely the tree from the story was as a child and I found myself seeing a lot of myself and my own struggles in this little crooked tree.

The art in the book is beautiful on its own, but the story was a beautiful story of love, loneliness, and finding your own path. I truly recommend it to anyone.

There is a touch of religious mention in the story regarding why Christmas is celebrated. It is one simple sentence and is easily removed from the story if needed for your own needs.

Materials needed:

·       100 - 200 yards depending on size

·       Size G 4.00 mm crochet hook

·       Yarn needle

·       Scissors

·       Size 4 yarn used in images, but any size will do. (may change amount of rows needed)

·       Sewing needle and thread

·       Pipe cleaners and pom pom balls

·       Stitch markers
