Garter stitch is the easiest thing to hand knit but quite laborious on the machine. This cardigan mixes two disciplines by combining hand knitted garter stitch bands with machine knitted main pieces. The garter stitch portion is knitted double stranded on large needles and goes very fast, even for those with only modest hand-knitting skills. For those who do not hand knit at all, machine knitting instructions are included for the bands.

YARN, GAUGE AND MACHINE
Any bulky machine including Bonds can make this sweater. “I Love This Yarn” from Hobby Lobby is a worsted weight acrylic yarn that gets 4 stitches and 6 rows per inch at stitch size 5. It is soft, strong and inexpensive but other similar yarns may be substituted. Most Bonds will use key-plate 3.
