Cross My Heart
This pattern was inspired by the beautiful sweep of a softly draped scarf around the neck, but knit in the round for ease of donning and doffing. The stripes of ribbing remind me of the spokes of a wheel curving around the shoulders, and also add a bit of texture to the wrap. This pattern is knit from the bottom up, starting flat, then joining in the round at the neck.
Size:
42” around at the bottom edge, 20” around at the neck, 7” from neck to hem at the front and 14” from neck to hem at the back.
Materials:
330-350 yards (300-320 meters) of worsted or DK weight yarn
U.S. size 9 circular needle and U.S. size 9 straight needles or dpns
stitch markers
Gauge:
16 stitches by 20 rows = 4” x 4”
Techniques Used:
1x1 rib (k1,p1)
Stockinette Stitch (st. st.) - knit all right side rows, purl all wrong side rows
Short rows
Decreasing stitches
Knitting in the round
Knitting two rows together
To get a different size neckwrap you can simply adjust the size of needles and/or yarn used. The whole pattern is given in terms of rows instead of inches, so that a change of gauge will give you an even change in size. The model pictured used DK weight yarn. Worsted would give a heavier fabric, but produces very nearly the same gauge when used with U.S. size 9 needles.
