The pattern’s been updated in May 2023 with a workflow diagram and errata for pages 5 and 7.

Three variations on 2-color Brioche Stitch create graphic textures in a reversible cardigan with a relaxed silhouette.

Can be worn 4 ways, as a classic shawl collar cardigan or ‘upside down’, with either right or wrong sides showing.

Basic brioche knitting knowledge is needed to complete this pattern.

Crosshatch is worked seamlessly from the top down, starting with the back neck of the shawl collar in Checked Rose Stitch with a Tuck Stitch Rib border.

Stitches are picked up along the collar, then the shoulder slope is shaped with increases.
Stitches for right, then left front shoulder pieces are picked up along the shoulder ‘seam’ creating slightly dropped armholes, the shoulder seam pushed slightly to the back for a cleaner, more seamless look.

Both collar and front pieces are then joined with the reserved back stitches to knit the rest of the body flat, back and forth in one piece.

When transitioning to Tuck Check St for the bottom hem, sts are CO and reserved on hold for simple horizontal slit pockets. Skip this step for a more streamlined silhouette without pockets.

Sleeve sts are picked up around the armholes and worked in the round to the cuffs. Pockets are worked in the round and finished using Three-Needle BO.
