Crosshatch is an easy-to-knit, easy-to-wear hat knit in a luscious fiber blend. Kenzie blooms beautifully when blocked while still retaining stitch definition and stretch. The all-over cable pattern is a little unusual to work, but easy to memorize and a fun challenge. As with my Horatio pattern, I was aiming for a unisex knit cap that appeals to many people without boring the person knitting it. I love the slightly jagged nature of the texture. It reminds me of drawings shaded with crosshatching, the little diagonal lines used to create the appearance of texture.

A note about sizes

Children’s heads are often bigger than one might think, and the
adult S/M will fit many children. Roughly speaking, the sizes
correspond to the following head circumferences.

newborn: 13-14”, 3-6 months: 14-17”, 6-12 months: 16-19”,
child: 18-20.5”, adult S/M: 20.5-22”, adult L: 22.5-24”

• All samples are knit in HiKoo Kenzie (50% New Zealand Merino, 25% Nylon, 10% Angora, 10% Alpaca, 5% Silk Noils; 160 yds per 50gm skein), shown in colorways Pavlova, Kale & Kiwi Fruit
• Watchcap with basic brim: 50 (65, 80, 125, 140, 165) yards
• Slouch with basic brim: 55 (75, 100, 150, 160, 185) yards
• Watchcap with folded brim: 65 (85, 105, 150, 170, 195) yards
• Slouch with folded brim: 70 (90, 120, 170, 190, 220) yards
• Optional yarn for pom pom: about 30-50 yards
• U.S. size 4 (3.5 mm) 16” circular needle or dpns for baby sizes
• U.S. size 7 (4.5 mm) 16” circular needle or dpns for baby sizes
