In the 1930s a musician named Robert Johnson travelled across the South playing his unique style of guitar and music. He died at a young age before being recognized for his talent, but the few recordings of his music that survived were pronounced the beginning of a new musical genre, the Mississippi Delta Blues. The Blues in turn heavily influenced other musicians and evolved into Rock N’ Roll.

Because so little of his life is known, a story related to one of his most popular songs “Crossroad” surfaced about how he became such a talented musician.
Legend says that one night Robert Johnson went down to the crossroads in Mississippi and made a deal with the Devil. He asked the Devil for extraordinary musical talent, offering up his soul in return.

I went to the crossroad, fell down on my knees
I went to the crossroad, fell down on my knees
Asked the Lord above “have mercy, now save poor Bob, if you please”

Standin’ at the crossroad, baby, risin’ sun goin’ down
Standin’ at the crossroad, baby, eee-eee, risin’ sun goin’ down
I believe to my soul, now, poor Bob is sinkin’ down

Nobody will ever know the truth, unless you managed to ask the Devil or Robert Johnson….

Come on down to the Crosroads for the first Brew City Yarns Mystery Knit-A-Long! Starting on October 1st, 4 clues will be released weekly to knit the Crossroads Shawl.

The Crossroads Shawl is a richly-textured shawl knit up in two main colors and using mini-skeins as accents. The entire shawl is knit in two-color brioche, but with a twist! Never tried two-color brioche? It’s actually EASIER than one-color brioche, because you can always tell which yarn you are working with.

This design was created so that knitters can use bright, variegated yarns that result in a shawl that is unique but tied together. You can go stash diving for the MKAL, but Brew City Yarns is also offering four kit choices: Wizards, Supernatural, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Moulin Rouge.

And the best part? Join the Brew City Crossroads MKAL group on Facebook to chat and share your progress with other knitters. Join the Facebook group at:

It is very important that one of the main colors be highly-contrasting to both the other main color and mini-skeins. It is recommended that you download the pattern intro prior to the MKAL to read over the Color Theory tutorial so that you can make your yarn choices.

Once you have purchased the Crossroads MKAL pattern you will be sent an automatic update of the pattern with each clue on the following dates:
