Cruise Control is a top-down, flap-and-gusset sock with a star toe. It’s not just a sock, it’s a Sock Knitting Method created for knitters who always have at least one pair of socks on the needles to drag to doctor appointments, chatty knitting groups, and coffee dates. Written in five adult sizes, you are sure to knit a sock that fits!

Designed to minimize supplies needed and the potential to drop stitches in transit, this sock requires only two circular needles, one luscious ball of your favorite sock yarn, and a darning needle to weave in the ends. With only bursts of focus during the cast on and heel turn and no kitchener stitch, you will mostly be knitting on cruise control. Cue the road trip playlist and knit on!

Sizes
Finished foot/ankle circumference 7 (7.5, 8, 8.5, 9) inches 18 (19, 20.5, 21.5, 23) cm lightly stretched. Choose a finished size approximately ½” (1.3 cm) less than your actual foot/ankle circumference.

Leg length and foot length are adjustable.

Yarn
One 100g ball sock yarn, approximately 460 yds (425 m). Yardage required will vary depending on desired leg and foot length. Sock yarn that creates a mock fair isle pattern, hand-dyed multicolor sock yarn, or self-striping sock yarn works great! Vacation yarn, anyone?

Needles
Two US size 1.5 (2.5 mm) circular needles or size needed to obtain gauge, length 16” (40 cm) or 24” (60 cm) as you prefer. I prefer the longer needles as the “hard part” of the needle is longer and more comfortable for my hands.
Maybe try it with one of each length and see what you think?

Notions
Darning needle for weaving in ends. No stitch markers needed.

Gauge
32 stitches and 44 rounds in 4 inches (10 cm) after washing, lightly stretched.
