Crunkled Socks
I absolutely love knitting socks, and with this new design I wanted to create something that feels like it knits itself.
One afternoon, after spending some time writing letters to loved ones, I decided to cast on a new sock. Whilst I wanted to lose myself in the relaxing rhythm of my knitting, sometimes a plain stocking stitch sock is not quite enough. So, I created my ‘Crunkled Socks’.
The repeating pattern reminded me of the writing paper that was crunkled up on my desk. But these socks hold a secret - hidden within them are all of my very favourite sock knitting techniques.
So, get ready for a project that has my ‘Umbrella Toe’, a perfectly fitting heel flap and turn, and a video tutorial to show you exactly how I work my 2 stitch gap closing technique for those pesky holes at the gusset corners. No holes here !!
When you combine all of this with that hypnotic repeat, I’m sure that you will also agree that the ‘Crunkled Socks’ do indeed knit themselves !
This design will look fabulous in pretty much any kind of yarn, from self-striping and hand dyed yarn to hard wearing commercial yarn.
I used one skein of Sherry Iris Designs MCN in the colourway ‘In Celebration of Lilacs’.
