Crystal Grid is an ideal first stranded colorwork project for the confident beginner. If you can knit a basic beanie in the round, you can knit this cute hat! There are no long floats, and I have built in a “relief row” every so often that uses just a single color.
Instructions included for four sizes: baby (child, adult S/M, adult L/XL). Finished circumference is 17 (20, 22, 24) inches or 43 (50, 56, 61) cm. Length is adjustable to achieve the amount of slouch you prefer.
You will need one 50 g skein of Woolstok Worsted for the main color, and one mini skein for each row of crystals: 5 (6, 7, 7) mini skeins. This would also be a great stash buster project!
You will need a 16” (40 cm) US 6 (4 mm) needle for the ribbing, a 16” (40 cm) US 8 (5 mm) needle and dpn for plain stockinette, and a 16” (40 cm) US 9 (5.5 mm) needle for the stranded colorwork, or size needles needed to get gauge. Gauge in stockinette and stranded colorwork is 18 stitches and 24 rows to 4 inches.
The pattern includes written instructions for the hat and a simple chart for the stranded colorwork section.
Happy knitting!
