Crystalline
Page 22 of Interweave’s “New Directions in Sock Knitting: 18 Innovative Designs Knit from Every Which Way”
Drawing inspiration from nature, this sock design is reminiscent of the faceted growth patterns of ice and mineral crystals. Each sock employs short-rows and multi-directional knitting to give it the appearance of a large crystal, with groupings of smaller crystals around the base, i.e., the cuff. This pattern takes the idea of a traditional cuff-down sock and adds angles and textures for interest. It features a standard flap-and-gusset heel, but achieves it in a non-standard fashion. Even the toe decreases are worked in an unusual way to continue the crystalline illusion.
